Wearing Thermals to Keep Warm While Recovering from Anorexia

What is Anorexia Nervosa?

This is an eating disorder where someone may have an obsessive fear of gaining weight. This often leads to a distorted view of their body and a constant challenge to maintain proper and healthy body weight. Two types exist: the Restriction subtype and the binge-eating/purge type. The restriction type means keeping a low body weight by limiting the amount of food you eat. With the binge-eating/purge type, you may be restricting your food and engaging in eating binges or self-induced vomiting practices.

Signs and Symptoms

Remember that not everyone who is anorexia is underweight. Many seem quite healthy but are, in fact, malnourished. While the list here isn't comprehensive, it's essential to know what these signs and symptoms are:

• Cold intolerance or hypothermia
• Preoccupations with weight
• Distorted body image
• Fatigue/fainting/dizziness
• Sleep difficulties
• Excuses for not eating or denying they're hungry
• Abuse of laxatives, diuretics, or diet pills

Side Effects of Anorexia

Many side effects are long-lasting, and it's essential to have early interventions. These can be:

• Anemia
• Low blood pressure
• Kidney failure
• Poor circulation
• Heart damage
• Edema and more

Your Body Temperature

Maintaining your body temperature is essential to staying warm. One of the downfalls of anorexia is inadequate insulation and when a patient is underweight. This creates cold intolerance and poor circulation in the hands and feet, leading to Raynaud's phenomenon. Having a low core body temperature can make you more susceptible to hypothermia, proving fatal with slower heart rate and abnormal heart contractions.

Women's long underwear sets will help keep you warm as you recover from anorexia. These thermal sets for women work due to their polyester/spandex stretchable fabric that fits like a second skin without limiting your body movements. This close fit traps in your body heat which is then distributed across your skin for a perfect cozy feeling—additionally, the fleece-lining acts as another heat conductor.

As the fabric is breathable and moisture-wicking, you won't have to worry about overheating or getting that clammy feeling from sweat. All the moisture is pulled from your body and released through the fabric to help regulate your body temperature and keep you warm. Thermals act as the insulation you need so you can recover comfortably and help reduce your discomfort.

While recovery can take time, you may be stuck with cold intolerance for a while. Women's long underwear sets are designed to keep you warm and help ward off hypothermia. Thermal sets for women will become an integral part of your wardrobe. At the same time, your recovery with thermals will make you as comfortable as possible while you heal. They are easy to take care of, and it's always good to have a few pairs, so you don't have to do laundry as much as fatigue is a side effect of anorexia. If needed, always speak to your physician and remember that healing takes time, and you aren't in it alone.
